“La Soufrandise”, owned by Francoise & Nicolas Melin and is in the Maconnais area of Southern Burgundy. This tiny family Domaine farms some 15 acres of Chardonnay, with a heritage that stretches back over 170 years. Burgundian insiders know that the Melins produce highly enjoyable Pouilly-Fuisse of excellent quality at very reasonable prices. Extreme care is taken in the vineyards to preserve the authenticity of the “Terroir” and to be as organic as reasonably possible. The Coeur de Vignoble Vieilles Vignes has been a regular winner of the prestigious Gold Medal at the Annual National tastings in Paris.
The Melin’s top cuvee of 100% Chardonnay and one of the finest examples of the appellation is their Coeur de Vignoble Pouilly-Fuisse Vieilles Vignes, which emanates from the Domaine’s top parcels and oldest vines – some exceeding 70 years old. The two principal elements are from an area called “Menestrieres” for power and breeding, and Clos Gaillard for elegance and finesse. These two blended components provide impressive balance between richness of fruit, elegance and freshness and provide extremely enjoyable drinking for at least 3-6+ years from the harvest. This high quality Pouilly-Fuisse Vielles Vignes is a delightful aperitif, goes extremely well with white fish with delicate sauces, crustacean dishes, and white meats.
