Sebastien Treuillet and Magali Metenier

Affable Domaine owner and vigneron Sebastien Treuillet, whose family background was in the cereal business, began by working for a winemaker friend in Sancerre when he was 15. His passion for winemaking aroused, he created Domaine Treuillet in 1991, based in the village of Fontenille about 7 km from Pouilly-sur-Loire. The principal grape variety planted is 4.35 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc. Sebastien has a number of different parcels on different soils – argile-kimmeridgean, sandy soils as well as some caillottes – limestone dominated, with very little soil. On the argile-kimmeridgean soils Sébastien is unusual in using the Courson-Royat pruning system, which he finds keeps the yields down, whereas on his more sandy soils he has the Guyot system.

Sebastien makes gorgeous, intense Pouilly Fume of wonderful finesse from his various parcels. The 2012 is pale yellow with hints of silver reflections. Crisp citrus notes on white peach nuances follow on the palette, with inherent freshness, lemongrass scents, and a fine, ripe core, and excellent minerality of flint and stone underpinned by crisp acidity and beautiful poise.

Awards and plaudits are aplenty including:
Gold Medal, Angers
Siver Medal, Paris
Silver Medal, Independent WinemakersSilver Medal Decanter

Sebastien also looks after the wines of his friend Magali Metenier from which is produced the fabulous value VdP Val du Loire Sauvignon. Although literally within meters of the Pouilly Fume appellation limit, this is characterized as a Vin de Pays. A VdP rarely tastes like this! Crisp freshly cut apple notes, mingled with grapefruit, rhubarb and compelling acidity, the richness and bold, ripe forward fruit on the palette instils the desire for yet another mouthful. This Sauvignon has won outstanding plaudits wherever presented including:

Gold Medal at the World Concourse of Sauvignon
Gold Medal, Angers
